Thavy Hy, HHP
A Mueller graduate with over 1000 hours, Thavy grew up around Traditional Chinese Medicine. When sick she was treated with Chinese herbs and tea along with the traditional coin rub and fire cupping. This treatment is so effective she decided to learn how to administer it herself. Thavy believes a body and mind out of balance is unhealthy, which leads to stress and discomfort in the body. Thavy truly believes in the art and science of holistic therapy and the healing powers of massage therapy, natural remedies and meditation. She loves massage therapy and working with diverse and open-minded people. Her mission is to help others achieve balance and peak performance through holistic massage and bodywork.
Thavy practices a blend of different Western and Eastern modalities customized to fit individual needs. Her specialty is Sports Massage and Deep Tissue, working to help athletes avoid injuries, improve performance and reduce downtime due to pain or injury.
Here at Zen, I am excited to meet the unique people who grace my door with their presence. My client base consists of those who come for stress reduction/preventive, wellness massage therapy, those with specific pain or problem and people with injuries new and long standing. I consider every client an athlete. Some are keyboard athletes, some are weekend warriors, and some are construction athletes. They get the same or similar problems that sports enthusiasts get: tendonitis, strained muscles from overuse or under use, muscles tension and acute and chronic pain. I am here to help and make a difference.

Janet DeHart, Massage Therapist
My journey into health and wellness began at my home here in sunny San Diego. My mother treated our family and pet health issues through homeopathy, and my grandmother first taught me foot massage reflexology.
From a very young age I have desired to help people spiritually and physically. I went on missionary trips to Nicaragua and Spain when I was in my teens. I looked for opportunities to serve in my church and community. My favorite way was to simply rub peoples backs, and feet.
My first job was as a Recreational Therapist Aide at Sharp Hospital. I became certified through the Arthritis Foundation to teach Water Therapy classes in the heated pool. I wanted more hands on experience so I worked as a Physical Therapist Aide at Continental Rehabilitation Hospital in Hillcrest.
I have now finished my Massage Therapist Training at the International Professional School of Bodywork and am working towards becoming a Holistic Health Practitioner. My specialty is Neuromuscular Therapies blended with deep Swedish massage.
I believe every massage is an opportunity for the receiver to fall deeper in love with their physical bodies. Each person I touch is on their own path of healing and it is my joy to facilitate and witness their process.

Chance Billmeyer - H.H.P., B.F.A., A.S.
Chance Billmeyer created the ZEN BodyMIND Sanctuary & Studio in 2003. "I wanted to create a space that people would feel an immediate sense of peace, a sanctuary away from their busy lives." ZEN has become exactly that, a sanctuary and refuge from cell phones, emails, too many meetings and tight deadlines. Each person that enters through the doors states, "I feel calmer and more relaxed already - it is soo peaceful in here and beautiful." On top of that peaceful feeling is an offering of services to help individuals find that deeper inner peace and most balanced self through bodywork, medicine, meditation, books and art.
Come in and enjoy fresh brewed tea and clear mountain spring water. Sit down and relax for awhilejust taking a break from the complexity and business of the day, taking a breath and reorientating your whole self towards greater health.
Chance is currently teaching Yoga as well as Tai Chi weekly and offers free lectures to groups interested in learning more about Eastern health and alternative medicines. He is also a guest lecturer at the International Professional School of Bodywork in Pacific Beach where he offers information each quarter to the Professional Business Practices class. Chance is also the current President of the local Kensington Talmadge Business Association.

Ross Weaver - HHP
Ross is a licensed Holistic Health Practitioner and has practiced bodywork and massage since 2000. Ross joined the team at ZEN BodyMIND Sanctuary & Studio in 2003. His understanding of breath and movement is the core of his bodywork. He is a graduate of the International Professional School of Bodywork and is currently assisting the Contemporary Methods and Sensory Repatterning classes at this school.
Ross created a special blend of bodywork that uses the ancient Hawaiian form of passive joint movement and traditional Thai Massage -- called TaoChin rebalancing -- this wonderfully relaxing massage helps joints, increases flexibility and deepens the bodies sense of calm.
He became interested in holistic health through studying Wu Shu Kung Fu as a youth. Ross continues to practice Kung Fu, as well as Tai Chi Chuan and Qi Gong. Ross teaches Qi Gong as well as lectures to groups interested in learning more about the healing art of meditation combined with movement.

Yul De Los Rios, HHP
Yul De Los Rios is a Holistic Health Practitioner whose background in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork emphasizes the use of Asian Bodywork systems based on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Yul attended the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine where he received extensive training and certification in the Asian Arts and the International Professional School of Bodywork in order to support his existing knowledge of the Western approach to Bodywork and Therapeutic Massage. His interest in Oriental Medicine and Bodywork was sparked by his exposure to Taoist philosophy, Martial Arts, and Dit Dat Jow (a Chinese Herbal Liniment used in Martial Arts to stimulate Qi/blood flow and is also intended to prevent trauma due to impact while training). Yul decided to explore the healing aspect of the Martial Arts by pursuing the Asian Healing Arts altogether so that he could share the principles and concepts of self-healing/self-awareness, balance, and conditioning with others whose lifestyles do not permit mental, physical, and emotional exploration and progression as one.

Victor Nguyen, Massage Trainee
Currently a student at the International Professional School of Bodywork (IPSB), Victor has accrued over 600 hours of academic and hands-on training. A Massage Trainee since 2007, he is actively pursuing an Associate of Science in Holistic Health at IPSB College and at ZEN Sanctuary he is apprenticing in the field of massage and bodywork under the tutelage of Chance Billmeyer, HHP and Ross Weaver, HHP. Victor joined the ZEN Sanctuary team in 2006 and recognizes that this place is more than just a wellness spa.
ZEN Sanctuary is indeed a sanctuary for those who seek peace of mind and bodya place of true freedom where you can simply be yourself and feel life flow through you.
Victor was introduced to ZEN as a client. Involved in a car collision in 2005 the result was whiplash and misalignments in his body. After some initial chiropractic care, Victor came to ZEN to receive massage therapy on a regular basis at ZEN and only then did his body feel more in balance, unified and healthy again. Over time Victor eventually assumed a receptionist position at ZEN, took an introductory bodywork class, and has been studying and working in the field of Holistic Health since then.
In our daily lives many tend to be somewhat stationary either sitting in the car commuting or behind the desk for long hours where the only movement is reaching to change the radio station or clicking the mouse. Over time the body may begin to close up due to the lack of a full range of motion which can lead to pain, stress, anxiety and low energy. The body is made to move in all directions.
Victor specializes in THAI MASSAGE which encourages the body to move and open up through various stretches. The assisted postures can feel like a yoga session on the table. He has studied closely with instructors who live in Thailand a few months out of each year and had the opportunity to really embody a true and authentic THAI MASSAGE experience. Also known as the Lazy Man's Yoga, the intention of the work is to bring the client to their edge of flexibility and encourage the breath throughout the session to help open and energize the body. THAI MASSAGE is for anyone and everyone who would like to experience the greatest potential their bodymind has to offer.
Victor supports the I AM Foundation and Kids for Peace and volunteers with the local business association here in Kensington. When not practicing bodywork, you can find Victor improving his yoga practice, cooking gourmet meals, enjoying live music or bodysurfing at the beach.
